The legendary Banzai Pipeline is a highlight. During winter, enormous waves attract expert surfers from around the world. Watching from shore gives you an appreciation for their skill and the ocean’s power. Nearby Haleiwa offers surf-town character, local shops, and inviting places to stop for lunch.

Surfing HeritageSurfing is woven into Hawaii’s history, and the craftsmanship behind its surfboards is fascinating. Honolulu’s historic Inter-Island Surf Shop has connections to renowned board makers, including Mickey Lake, Dick Brewer, and Robert “Sparky” Scheufele.

Learning about hand-shaped boards and the people behind them adds another dimension to an Oahu visit. It’s a reminder that Hawaii’s appeal reaches far beyond its beaches.

Kauai: Dramatic Cliffs and Waterfall Adventures

Kauai’s beauty is extraordinary. The towering cliffs of the Na Pali Coast, lush valleys, and tropical scenery create landscapes that almost seem imagined. It’s easy to understand why the island became a backdrop for Jurassic Park and other films.

One of my most memorable experiences involved paddling upriver through beautiful tropical surroundings, reaching a waterfall, and swimming in the pool below. Moments like that are what make travel so rewarding.
