As a member of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), I know what to look for behind the label: B Corp status, EarthCheck Gold certification, transparent supply chains, and whether a property actually treats its water and composts its waste. Conservation and wildlife
The operators I work with are active stewards of the land, not just companies that happen to operate on it. In Africa, that means safaris that directly fund anti-poaching units. Comfort and responsibility are not a tradeoff. The best eco-lodges now offer five-star service alongside zero-waste operations. The single best thing I do for sustainability is book guides who are from the region. The money stays local, the perspective is genuine, and you come home with a understanding of a place that no guidebook could give you.
