It's Tulip Time

I had my first experience with river cruising just as the world was coming out of lockdown from COVID - what an experience.  I got to see the lovely Christmas markets along the Rhine River when crowds weren't all that bad - even though we had to wear masks in public areas and show immunizations cards wherever we went. I really didn't mind wearing as mask as it helped keep my face warm in December :).  Oh the sites to behold - from magnificent cathedrals to wide open spaces along the river.

My next experience was on the Rhone River in the southern part of France- great wine country.  Note to travellers - Those excursion descriptions may not always be the most accurate in terms of physical requirements.  While the rail bikes looked fun on the video, it was A LOT of work.  Lovely stops along this river included Avignon, Lyon, and Arles - all amazing places.  The food was amazing throughout the trip.  Before coming home, we decided to stay a little longer in Marseille - a true melting pot of cultures.  We took in a foodie walking tour with a local, and it was one of the best things we could have done to experience the whole city.There was a huge park in the center of the city where families came to socialize and play.  Children were actually playing - not stuck on a device. So refreshing to see.

My third river cruise was this Spring of 2026 - round trip Amsterdam for the Tulip Time.  This is a very special sailing filled with cheese, clogs windmills, and of course, flowers.  From the flower market (if you you're game to get up very early) to the 7 million flowers blooming at Keukenhof Gardens, there was a new, beautiful experience every day. I can't wait to get the bulbs we ordered so we can relive the experience for years to come.

Can't wait to get to my next river in March, 2027 - the Danube.
