About Me

Trekking with the Gorillas
Trekking with the Gorillas

Among all the trips I’ve been lucky to take as a travel agent, few stand out quite like gorilla trekking in Rwanda.

This trip blends the thrill of the wild with simple, genuine moments in nature. Let me share a bit about those memorable days in May, when a group of eight of us headed out on an adventure that truly changed how we see wildlife.

We kicked things off in Kigali, Rwanda’s lively capital. Excitement was in the air as we traveled toward the green hills of the Virunga Mountains. Our base for the next couple of nights was Wilderness Sabyinyo—once known as Silverback Lodge. The lodge had a cozy, natural feel, with just enough comfort and incredible views, making it the perfect spot to get ready for our gorilla trek.

Day 1: Getting Close to NatureWe woke up early, right at 6:30 am, ready for the day ahead. After packing our bags, we headed off toward the park. We didn’t have a set path to follow — the guides waited for the morning updates on where the gorillas had been spotted overnight. It was a good reminder that while we were visitors here, the gorillas really ran the show.

Each of us had a guide who carried our gear and shared their knowledge about the local landscape. Our first trek lasted around three hours, a great way to get used to the area. The trail led us through thick greenery, with the fresh smells of the forest and the sounds of birds all around. Then, the moment we’d been waiting for: seeing the gorillas. Time seemed to slow as we quietly watched a family of gorillas going about their day, right in their own home.

Day 2: The Longer Trek into the Forest Day two was more challenging — a seven-hour trek through tougher terrain. The paths were steeper and muddier, with lots of roots and vines to navigate. But knowing we might see gorillas kept us going strong.

Wilderness Sabyinyo packed us simple lunches, and we enjoyed eating together surrounded by the forest’s beauty. Sharing food and laughs made our group feel even closer.

Each trek is different, but what stays the same is the feeling of respect and wonder for these gentle giants. Sometimes you find gorillas quickly, and sometimes it takes longer, but no matter what, every minute on the trail is worth it when you finally meet these incredible creatures.

Those two days in Rwanda, walking through vibrant forests and meeting the gorillas, were unforgettable. It wasn’t just about getting there — it was the whole experience, every step and every moment, that left a lasting impression.

Tahiti Anniversary
Hi Betty, I hope you are doing well. You probably don't remember me, but a few years ago, my husband and I were planning a trip to Moorea/Bora Bora, but we ended up having to cancel because my mother in law was diagnosed with cancer. You very kindly handled the cancellations, and we really appreciated your help. We are finally ready to reschedule our trip for the end of September 2026 or October 2026. I'm not sure if it is too early to start planning, but I saw this email and thought I would reach out to you. Please let me know if this is something you can help us with, and if so, when we should start planning.

Thanks for getting us home safe!
On October 6, my girlfriend and I flew from Istanbul to Tel Aviv, Israel, after our Long Beach Yacht tour organized by AMT travel. Betty Morgan, the owner of AMT travel, knew about our Israel plans. On Saturday, October 7, during a Jewish Holiday, Israel was attacked by Hamas, and war was declared. With cities filled with travelers trying to get home, Betty, even from Jordan, sent a concerned text. On Sunday, we got an email from Carole, her airline expert, who found us seats on the only airline still flying, El Al, for Monday afternoon. American Express who we did our flights with later confirmed the cancellation of our original flight. Despite spending 14 hours and seeking refuge in an airport bomb shelter, we made it to Athens, allowing us to catch our scheduled Wednesday flight home. Betty and Carole's assistance was invaluable. A personal relationship with trained travel experts is reassuring in times of need. Contact us to experience our dedication.

The Most Amazing Trip to Greece
It was amazing! Runa and I kept saying at every stop, “We love you Betty Morgan!” The accommodations were all in great locations and were all beautiful. We had great tour guides. The transitions from plane to hotel, hotel to ferry and ferry to hotels were well planned. We had one hiccup in Mykonos when we were taken to the wrong hotel from the ferry but it was quickly remedied after contacting Anthia. The order of visits starting in Athens (sightseeing, walking the city, restaurants) then Mykonos (pool relaxation, beach club, sunset cruise, restaurants) and ending in Santorini (wine, sightseeing, food) was perfect for us. Each location had it’s own appeal. I’m truly grateful for all your hard work organizing an amazing trip for us. It was the honeymoon we needed 14 years later. Now my wife has other trips in mind that she wants to organize with you. Like it or not, you have won our trust! I hope we talk soon to start working on the next vacation.

Our African Safari
We want you to know how much we enjoyed everything and appreciative of your guidance. The whole trip was spectacular. A&K was incredible- the Zambia and Botswana accommodations and service were great and the experience with our guides was just phenomenal. We saw everything possible to see and did it with great style. Thank you for suggesting that trip- it couldn’t have been better. We also really enjoyed our time in South Africa at Zulu Nyala. While not as high as A&K, the accommodations were lovely and our guide there was extraordinary. We were happy to have the contrast between the 2 locations as the countries and the game viewing are uniquely different. It was a wonderful time! We are sharing our adventure and I am steering friends your way. Thank you again for your help and we will be in touch about future travel. We were far more prepared because of your suggestions about clothes, travel, etc than our fellow companions!
