Croatia is one of those destinations that gets into your soul and refuses to leave — and I say that as someone who has experienced it firsthand. I've explored the Dalmatian Coast from Split to Dubrovnik, spent time on the islands of Brac, Hvar, and Korcula, and walked the ancient city walls of Dubrovnik at sunset while the last light shimmered across the clay rooftops of the old city. It's the kind of view that stops a conversation cold.

But Croatia, for me, is also deeply personal. My family has roots on the island of Brac, and on one trip, I had the extraordinary experience of staying in the very house where my great-grandfather was born. We also visited the home where my great-grandmother grew up. To walk those streets knowing my family walked them generations before me gave this destination a meaning that goes well beyond beautiful scenery — though there's plenty of that too.

I know the rhythm of this coast: the outdoor markets spilling out around Diocletian's Palace in Split, the quiet villages of Brac, the lavender fields and lively harbors of Hvar, the medieval stone lanes of Korcula, and the magic of finding a waterfront table with a carafe of house white wine and nowhere else you need to be.
