Bora Bora Vow Renewal

I’m Heather D’Amico, owner of D’Amico Travel, and my husband, Dave, and I had the chance to take one of the most memorable trips of our lives, a private catamaran sailing through Bora Bora with four other couples, a captain, and a chef. It was one of those experiences you dream about but don’t fully believe is real until you’re there.

We flew from LAX to Tahiti, landing late that first night. The InterContinental was the perfect last stop before we boarded the boat. It was December, and I’ll never forget walking into the lobby to find a Christmas tree lit up in tropical colors. It felt festive, a little surreal, and exactly what we needed after a long travel day.

The next afternoon, we flew over to Bora Bora to board the catamaran. It was us, four other couples, a captain, and a chef, and I cannot describe the excitement and anticipation of “moving in” for the week. The other couples became instant friends, the kind of people you feel like you’ve known forever after just one evening. Most days, we stayed on deck, read a little, took in the scenery, and let the water and sunshine set the pace.

There was a loose itinerary, but every night we’d gather around the table and decide how we wanted the next day to look. It made the whole trip feel easy and relaxed in a way most vacations aren’t. The food on board was incredible. Every meal was hand-prepared and beautifully served on our table set for ten, with ocean views and the kind of quiet you only find miles from shore.

We snorkeled the coral garden off Tahiti, visited a local vanilla farm, and spent plenty of afternoons just floating in the middle of nowhere. One afternoon Dave and I kayaked and just stopped in the middle of the ocean away from the boat and just took in the moment, realizing how lucky we are to have this experience, so unique and breathtaking. What I loved most about this trip was how unstructured it was.

So much of daily life, and even travel, comes with this pressure to do it all, to make the most of every second. This was the complete opposite. It was the ultimate way to disconnect, slow down, and just be. As a destination wedding and romance travel expert, experiences like this remind me why I love what I do.
