There is nothing quite like the luxury of a small ship cruise.  With today’s mega ships that are floating cities, much of the pampering that used to be synonymous with cruising has faded away, with the exception of small ship cruising.

These cruises are more personal in nature, have no crowds, and offer extremely high levels of service. Moreover, they tend to have itineraries that go to more unique places most cruise lines cannot go to, and the food is always to die for.

Still, all small ships are not created equal.  Some focus on a more formal style, while others are more comfortable and casual for discerning travelers that don’t want to even think about that perfect dress or tux.

Some small ships are more about experiencing your destinations and their local flavor, and some are more about simply soaking up the luxury of it all.

Some of the small ships, like Ponant and Atlas create more of a sense of being on a mega yacht, some focus more on the experience of sailing, like Windstar, while others are floating boutique 5 Star hotels, like Silversea, Seabourn, Viking, Azamara and Oceana.

All said, each of us views the concept of luxury differently, so when choosing a small ship cruise, it is always important to focus on more than just the itinerary, but the kind of luxury the ship offers.
