A final day of sightseeing ahead and first the official residence of the Royal family in Scotland, The Palace of Holyroodhouse (closed on Tues and Weds). Visit the magnificent State Apartments which are still used by the Royal Family, as well as the Throne Room and the chambers used by Mary, Queen of Scots from between 1561-1567. Next, walk up to Edinburgh Castle but be ready for the firing of the One-o’clock Gun, the famous time signal that has been firing since 1861. Within the castle is St Margaret’s’ Chapel – the oldest building in the city dating to 1130. Be dazzled but the oldest crown jewels in the British Isles – the honours of Scotland and take the chance to see the iconic Stone of Destiny, which has been used for centuries to inaugurate monarchs.
