About Me

Nicaragua, the largest country in Central America, is a land of breathtaking landscapes, vibrant cities, and rich cultural heritage. Known for its stunning lakes, volcanoes, and colonial architecture, Nicaragua offers an array of experiences for every type of traveler. Here’s a guide to exploring this beautiful country.Day 1: Arrival in ManaguaBegin your journey in Managua, the capital city. While often overlooked, Managua has its own unique charm. Visit the National Palace of Culture and the Ruins of the Old Cathedral, which tell the story of the city’s history. Explore the lively Masaya Market for local crafts, textiles, and traditional foods. Enjoy a meal at a local restaurant, trying traditional dishes like gallo pinto (rice and beans) or quesillo (tortilla with cheese and cream).Day 2: Masaya Volcano and Granada Travel to Masaya Volcano National Park, where you can witness an active volcano. The Masaya Crater offers a thrilling view of the bubbling lava. Afterward, head to Granada, one of the oldest cities in the Americas, famous for its colonial architecture and vibrant colors. Stroll along Calzada Street, lined with cafes, shops, and art galleries. Don’t miss the Iglesia de La Merced, where you can climb the bell tower for panoramic views of the city and the Mombacho Volcano.Day 3: Lake Nicaragua and Ometepe IslandTake a boat tour on Lake Nicaragua, the largest freshwater lake in Central America. Visit Ometepe Island, formed by two volcanoes, Concepción and Maderas. Spend the day hiking one of the volcanoes, exploring waterfalls like San Ramón, or visiting the Ometepe Museum to learn about the island's history and indigenous cultures. Enjoy a sunset by the lake before returning to Granada.Day 4: León Travel to León, known for its rich revolutionary history and vibrant arts scene. Visit Basilica de La Asunción, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the largest cathedrals in Central America. Explore the Museum of the Revolution to learn about Nicaragua’s history and the Sandinista revolution. Afterward, wander through the colorful streets filled with murals and street art. Spend the evening enjoying local cuisine at a restaurant.Day 5: Cerro Negro Volcano Experience the thrill of volcano boarding at Cerro Negro, an active volcano near León. After a short hike to the summit, you can slide down its black volcanic ash slopes on a board. It’s an exhilarating experience and a unique way to explore Nicaragua’s volcanic landscape. Afterward, relax at a nearby beach such as Las Peñitas or San Juan del Sur.Day 6: San Juan del SurSpend a day in the coastal town of San Juan del Sur, known for its beautiful beaches and laid-back atmosphere. Enjoy sunbathing, swimming, or surfing at popular beaches like Maderas and Marsella. For those seeking adventure, consider a horseback riding tour along the beach or a boat tour to spot dolphins. In the evening, unwind with a beachfront dinner, watching the sunset over the Pacific Ocean.Day 7: Nicaragua’s Highlands Travel to the highlands of Nicaragua, specifically to Matagalpa or Estelí. These regions are known for their lush coffee plantations and cooler climate. Visit a coffee farm to learn about the coffee production process and enjoy tastings. Explore the nearby cloud forests and hiking trails for a chance to see diverse wildlife, including exotic birds and monkeys.Day 8: Return to Managua On your last day, return to Managua for any last-minute sightseeing or shopping. If time permits, visit Tiscapa Lagoon for views of the city from above. Reflect on your journey through this beautiful country, enjoying a final meal of Nicaraguan cuisine before your departure.Cultural Experiences and Local CuisineThroughout your trip, immerse yourself in Nicaragua’s culture. Attend a local festival if your visit coincides with one, such as the Festival of San Jerónimo in Masaya. Sample traditional foods like vigorón (yuca with pork), sopa de mondongo (tripe soup), and local fresh fruit juices.Outdoor Adventures Nicaragua is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. In addition to hiking and beach activities, consider ziplining through the canopy in the rainforest or kayaking on the Isletas de Granada, a group of small islands in Lake Nicaragua. Birdwatching is also excellent in many areas, especially in nature reserves like Chocoyero-El Brujo. Conclusion Nicaragua is a country rich in natural beauty and cultural experiences, from the active volcanoes and serene lakes to the colonial cities and vibrant markets. Whether you’re hiking a volcano, relaxing on a beach, or exploring a historic city, Nicaragua promises an adventure that showcases the warmth and diversity of Central America. 4o mini

Spectacular Family Cruise
Reviewed By JT - California | Traveled to Caribbean Sea ~ At Sea ~ At Sea
Marian made our travel arrangements to take our children on a Caribbean cruise. She picked the correct ship for our 3 children and us. When we needed a little adult time, there were clubs for the children to attend. We are adventuresome, and that was the vibe of our ship. Bravo, Marian, for assessing our needs and matching us up so well.
Marian Wattel responded
"Thank you for the opportunity to assist in making your family adventure a success. I really knew we had a fit but needed to have a work through. You made my hunch become a reality. I know there will be other family adventures to follow. "

Held my hand throughout.

Marian did the impossible - she got a flight that met up with my Australian girlfriend in Frankfurt so we could arrive together. She also kept me calm when not one, but two flights were missed and guided me through the steps to get back on track. Her fee is ridiculously low for the service she supplies. I will use her once again as I have in the past.
Marian Wattel responded
"Lynne, It is always a pleasure working with you. So glad you are back home, safe, and with a smile in your voice. Mew"
I would recommend this agent to my family and friends.

Our Bespoke Italian Adventure
it was a wonderful trip -- Pompeii, Herculaneum, Agrigento, and enough museums to satisfy even us. All the drivers were terrific. Teo, who drove us from Siracusa to Palermo and was more than up to the task. He tried two or possibly three ways to get us to Piazza Armerina, but it wasn't possible because the roads were washed out, so we went on to Agrigento, where he set us up for the easiest way to see as much as possible. It was spectacular. He explained to us that merely to drive to the two stops on the way to Palermo would take more than the allotted 8 hours. The various map programs say it can be done with the stops, but real world conditions make it impossible. Admittedly we had really bad weather and horrific traffic, but who gets ideal conditions? The Valley of the Temples is spectacular, but it might better be a separate trip or an overnight, especially for older people. Again, thank you for all your help. Stay healthy! All the best, E and J

Trains, Boats, and Planes Adventure Abounds
Thank you, Marian, for our diverse, detailed adventure. Having us meet fellow cruisers prior to the cruise was brilliant. We are particularly grateful for the door to door care. Our fears of not getting to the right place were eased when we saw our greeter and our names on his sign. The Glacier Express and our stay in Zermet far exceeded our expectations. We loved arriving in San Moritz and staying in our castle-like hotel. The Bernina Express was more great scenery and so uplifting. Enjoyed exploring the Milan train station completing our loop. Flying to Edinburgh, exploring the castles, streets, and lunching on the royal yacht made our short stay fly by. The train to London was a peaceful, pleasant end to our side adventure and way to ease into our week's stay in London. At King's Cross station our greeter whisked off to our lodgings via a real London taxi. Loved the theaters, royal mews, and Keys ceremony. So much to see; so little time.
