River cruising is a very unique way to travel and I love it. Exploring while on a river cruising lets you unpack once while still experiencing multiple cities and/or countries. Wandering through medieval towns and learning the history or exploring castles and view is hard to describe until you have done it in person, but it is such a wonderful feeling. There are lots of wine and culinary focused river cruising as well photography and history.

A river cruise not only allow you to visit the larger capital cities, but the smaller villages along the river bank. You can take a river cruise anywhere from 4-14 days which offers a lot of flexibility.  River cruise lines range from luxury ships where every cabin has a butler like and multiple tours are included at each port for a more of an all inclusive luxury experience like Riverside Luxury Cruises and Scenic to those ships where it is an al ca rte model and you can pick and chose which experiences you would like for your travel party. 

I’ve personally cruised the Danube River twice and Dutch Waterways twice, and each journey has deepened my love for river cruising. In fact, Budapest is now my favorite city in all of Europe and is a common starting/ending point for river cruises on the Danube.  The food, breathtaking architecture, and European history in citiies like Vienna and Melk are not to be missed.  

As a dedicated river cruise specialist, I invest in ongoing education to better serve my clients. I’ve attended both ASTA’s River Cruise Week and CLIA’s River Cruise Week, gaining insights directly from cruise lines and industry leaders. I also attended ASTA’s River Cruise Expo in Amsterdam in 2026, giving me even more firsthand experience to bring back to my clients.
