I never stop being impressed by St. Lucia. It is a Caribbean island that I hold near and dear to my heart. These twin peaks soar 2,000 feet above the sea and UNESCO has declared them a World Heritage Site.  Visitors to the area can enjoy spectacular views of the Caribbean Sea, go on guided hikes, visit the Diamond Botanical Gardens, or simply relax at a luxurious resort. Not only are the Pitons a UNESCO World Heritage Site (made official in 2004), they also are island symbols. The two natural monuments sit in two different areas on volcanic St. Lucia. They are both dormant volcanoes (known as volcanic plugs), which are found on St. Lucia’s southwest coast.  The larger of the two peaks (Gros Piton) stands at 2,619 feet while the smaller peak (Petit Piton) rises up to 2,461 feet. While the smaller Petit Piton is rarely climbed, Gros Piton is often a featured destination on local hikes and tours. Gros Piton includes marked trails, so if you want to go on a hike, this is the place to visit. Also, islanders make a refreshing beer known as Piton Beer - something you’ll want to try after a planned tour or hike. The island’s picturesque beaches are a top attraction as well. Head to Rodney Bay for its white sands, calm turquoise waters, and wide range of activities like snorkeling, beach volleyball, and sailing.  Chois’s Tan Tan is another popular spot for families, offering secluded, golden-hued sands and shallow waters that are perfect for swimming. No visit to St. Lucia would be complete without a trip to Soufrière, a small town nestled in the shadow of Mt. Gimie (the tallest mountain on the island).
