Tenerife, the largest of Spain's Canary Islands, is a true gem in the Atlantic Ocean just off the coast of northwest Africa.  Known for it's stunning landscapes, pleasant climate and rich cultural heritage, Tenerife offers travelers an unbeatable blend of natural beauty, historical charm and exciting activities, making it a top bucketlist destination with something for everyone. 

One of the great advantages of Tenerife is its geographic differences.  In the north, my favorite, is charming towns like Puerto de la Cruz that provide authentic Canarian culture with picturesque architecture and quaint plazas--just what you would think of Spain.  The town square in Puerto de la Cruz is especially inviting where visitors can relax in a lively atmosphere surrounded by historic buildings, cafes and shops. 

Also in the North is Ls Laguna which offers a glimpse of Tenerife's colonial past.  Quaint well preserved streets and architecture, La Laguna is a must visit for history buffs and culture lovers alike.

The island's South coast, particularly the area of Costa Adeje, presents a completely different scene.  Known for its sunny weather almost year around, this region boasts beautiful sandy beaches with calm, clear waters ideal for swimming, sunbathing and water sports.  It's also the prime area for marine wildlife watching, namely whale and dolphin watching.  Tenerife is on of Europe's best spots to witness marine life in their natural habitat. 

Tenerife's location near the equator gives it another special advantage--one of my favorites---some of the clearest, darkest skies, perfect for stargazing.  The islands altitude and minimal light pollution, especially around Mt. Teide National Park, create breathtaking views of the stars, planets, and even the Milky Way.  Tenerife is home to the Teide Observatory, one of the best astronomical observatories in the northern hemisphere
