I have been on multiple River cruises. I love the intimacy on board the ships and the fact that you are taken right into the city. You have the luxury of unpacking once and stopping in multiple destinations. Many of the destinations tend to be a bit less touristy than what you would see on an ocean cruise. You can't go wrong with Viking, Avalon or AmaWaterways. They all provide unique experiences and itineraries. I personally love the tulip time itineraries and the Christmas Markets are a treat!
