USS Arizona Memorial

Our visit to the USS Missouri at Pearl Harbor was nothing short of extraordinary. Ron and I chose the self guided tour, but what made it truly one-of-a-kind was being led by our daughter, a Marine stationed on Oahu. Thanks to her escort, we entered from the Ford Island side—an approach that reveals the Mighty Mo in a way most visitors never see.As we explored the decks and hallways, our daughter shared stories, historical details, and insights she learned through her military history courses and her own time visiting the ship. It felt like walking through living history. The Missouri served from WWII through the first Gulf War, and today she stands as a powerful museum honoring all who served aboard her.Families will appreciate the ship’s engaging scavenger hunt, which makes the experience fun and accessible for children and adults alike. We especially loved the Marine Corps sections—full of personality and the good-natured rivalry between Marines and their Navy “siblings.”One of the most moving moments was standing on the top deck, looking out toward the USS Arizona Memorial. Our son-in-law had told us it was the most peaceful viewpoint, and he was absolutely right.The USS Missouri seems to stand watch over those lost during the bombing of Pearl Harbor on the Day that Will Live in Infamy.  Visiting the Mighty Mo was a privilege—an opportunity to honor her legacy and gain a deeper appreciation for the men and women who served our country.  I encourage everyone who comes to Honolulu to do a tour here, there are several options of self guided and fully guided, either in small groups or with a private guide.
