About Me

Travel has been my passion for over 40 years. When my husband and I got together travel was our #1 goal!

We have been successful in achieving this goal as we have traveled to over 130 countries as outlined by the Travelers' Century Club. I have stepped on all 7 continents and been on over 150 cruises on ships of all sizes. I have done many land tours all over the world.

Some of my favorite trips include a trip to Africa.  We started in Johannesburg, then went to Krueger National Park where we stayed in a luxurious lodge--complete with monkeys cupping their hands around their eyes to see in our bungalow. We then traveled to beautiful Capetown, with its majestic tabletop mountain overseeing the expansive city and the clear waters of the Indian Ocean. The highlight of the trip was flying to Botswana, where we had two days each in unique lodges and camps. The safaris were all different--from game watching in Savute Elephant Camp to riding dugout canoes through the marshlands of the Khwai River.  We finished  by flying to Mozambique were were in a beachfront bungalow for several nights, taking a dune buggy ride on the sand, snorkeling in the clearest water ever and taking a sunset dhow cruise. It was truly an unforgettable trip!

There are  many memorable trips to Europe. One that comes to mind is the Christmas market Rhine River cruise on Viking Cruises. Truly a magical time, seeing all of the cities with their gorgeous lighted trees in the squares, to booths lining the edges with all kinds of goodies for sale. Every stop had an outside ice skating rink where the local families were having a wonderful time! A favorite memory is seeing the Black Forest in Germany, where it had just snowed, and the bright sunlight was sparkling  and the trees  lovely with snow-laden branches.

There have been several trips to South America. One was going to Macchu Pichu and seeing the glorious peaks at sunrise. So interesting to hear about the Incas who had been there. The rumor is that the potato was created in Peru! The stone walls are amazing--every rock put together perfectly--without any cement holding them together. We then went on a Norwegian Cruise that began in Santiago around Cape Horn on a 2000 passenger ship. We were so lucky that the "Roaring 40s's" as it is known was quite calm!  We finished up in Buenos Aires, a most beautiful city considered to be the "Paris of South America" with its wide tree-lined avenues. Of course we took in a tango show that Argentina is known for. We finished up that trip by going to Iguazu Falls. One can't imagine how vast and powerful these falls are--they touch 3 countries!

An outstanding trip was a luxury train trip "El Tren Crucero" that we took through the Andes Mountains in Ecuador. The train had been outfitted by the President of Ecuador. The train wound through the steep terrain of the Andes and was outstandingly beautiful. From grassy plains to peaks over 20,000 feet could be seen in the comfort of our own comfortable seats.  The interior featured carved panels. There drinks and snacks onboard but we stayed in 3 unusual accommodations along the way--from a simple motel to a lavish hotel, and an inn where the host and hostess prepared a lovely pre-Christmas dinner.

I have been to many countries in Asia. We were fortunate enough to be able to go to Mynamar (Burma) twice. The first was on a Princess cruise that made a port call in  Yangon for 3 days. The captain had announced that we might not be able to land, due to the political situation and tourists possibly being banned. The gold "stupas' (religious domes) are stunning. We then went back a couple of years later on a cruise tour with Viking cruises, which included days in Bangkok. We saw how cheerful the people were in spite of being downtrodden and persecuted by the ruling generals.

In late 2019 we went with AMA Waterways on a cruisetour to Vietnam and Cambodia. We had days in Saigon, followed be a 7 night cruise on the Mekong River. We then went to Halong Bay on a one night boat trip. We then went to Cambodia and saw a beautiful sunrise at Angor Wat. The Sofitel we stayed at in Siem Reap was truly luxurious. we finished up in Hanoi where we flew home.

We traveled all over New Zealand by car rental, local buses and trains. There is an outstanding train ride that goes from Auckland to Greymouth on the other side of the North Island. Half way there is a lodge at Arthur's Pass that is in an alpine forest. The hospitality was heartwarming. The North Island is mountainous while the South Island is flatter, with wine grapes and vast plains.

One of the things that was a great experience in Australia was the Whitsunday Island cruise. We left from Port Airlie and traveled to several islands--each of them different. We foraged for oysters, snorkeled and in general enjoyed the slow pace of the interesting cruise.

I look forward to helping YOU with your trip of a lifetime!
