There are various transportation modes that can offer the best value for any travel plan. River cruises through Europe offers a way to experience the heart of the continent. Tours in the cities and countryside allow the best way to take in the history and yet enjoy the luxury of the accommodations. Land tours also allow ways to see more of the surrounding areas in depth.

Travel by train through Italy was one experience I had with my husband. By being in a central location for several nights it offers flexibility to see the sights with day trips. Ocean cruise ships give you access to countries along the coastline of South America, Southeast Asia and the Caribbean islands. There are various modes of travel to meet every individuals' needs. 

Some of my most precious memories were made on a River Cruise down the Danube River with stops in - Prague at the castle and St Vitus Cathedral, Vienna attending a concert at the Opera House and a side trip to Salzburg, Budapest visiting the cafes in Old Town and the little town of Durnstein with a visit to the Melk Abbey.   Another wonderful trip was by train through Italy that allowed us to visit the following cities - Siena visiting the Gothic Cathedral with a side trip to Tuscany wineries, Lake Como and the little towns along the lake, Parma, Venice, Rome, Florence and the Cinque Terre region. Side trips from the towns gave us more of the country to enjoy. Of course you can visit the larger cities while on an Ocean cruise as well. Our trip through Spain was an escorted tour. We hit the highlights of Madrid – The Prada, Toledo- Museum for El Greco art, Granada with visit to Alhambra, Ronda, Seville with a night for Flamenco and dinner, Cordoba – The Mosques of the Caliphs, Moorish and Roman architecture and back to Madrid. During the trip we had free time to explore the shops and cafes for the local cuisine. Prior to our trip we started in Barcelona on our own with the fast train to Madrid.
