Disney Sailing to Alaska
September 10, 2009
It’s a Disney Cruise Line® first! The Disney Wonder® Cruise Ship is sailing to Alaska for a four-month season of 7-night cruises in 2011. Departing out of Vancouver, B.C., the ship will call on popular ports such as Juneau, Ketchikan and Skagway, and visiting Tracy Arm fjord.
The first Alaskan cruise sets sail on May 3, 2011, with the last cruise of the season scheduled for Aug. 30, 2011.
According to Travel Weekly's Johanna Jainchill, "With two new ships slated to debut in 2011 and 2012, speculation had been widespread over where Disney would expand. Alaska was rumored to be a possibility when Disney applied for a 10-year permit to visit Glacier Bay that would have begun in 2010. But the line withdrew its application, tamping down speculation that Alaska would be one its new destinations.
To prepare for the Alaska sailings, Disney said it would add a venue to the Wonder called Outlook Café, a 2,500-square-foot area atop deck 10 that will allow passengers to view their surroundings through floor-to-ceiling, curved glass windows. A spiral staircase will connect Outlook Café to the existing Cove Café one deck below. The 65-seat lounge will be added to the Wonder during a renovation in October."
Bookings open to the general public on Sept. 28, 2009. If you're Disney Cruise Castaway Club members who’ve completed five or more sailings with Disney Cruise Line, you can book as early as Sept. 21, 2009. Early bookings are available by phone only.
