Barbados

Hello Friends, I have just returned from a 4 night educational familiarization tour of Barbados and thought you might like to hear a little about this beautiful and friendly Caribbean island. Maybe you would like to consider it for your next tropical vacation. If so, I would be happy to talk with you personally about your options for Barbados or any other location you are interested in.

The island of Barbados is the easternmost Caribbean island; part of the Lesser Antilles. The island was settled by the British over 300 years ago. Today the island is an independent country within the British Commonwealth. Their British heritage is evident in their pride in the island, the friendly manor of the “Bajan” residents, and the emphasis placed on service with attention to detail. I have to say, Barbados reminded me of Bermuda in many ways. A few of my favorite ways being the cleanliness of the island, the quaint and colorful houses, and the ability to get a good cup of tea anytime.

21 miles long and 14 miles wide the terrain of Barbados is mountainous, lush and green. The year-round average temperatures are between 75 and 85 degrees. Beautiful swimming beaches are located on the east and south coast and the braking waves of the west coast offer a place for the surfers to enjoy.

Accommodation wise, Barbados has everything from guest houses to 5 star resorts. There are few All Inclusive options for visitors, but I think the island caters to people who enjoy more dining options.  Most of the hotels and resorts offer a breakfast included plan, or sometimes a breakfast and dinner inclusive option is offered. This works well in Barbados because the restaurant selections there are diverse and abundant. There is something for everyone, from casual family fare to (many) fine dining options. As the only Caribbean island with its own Zagat guide they take cuisine here very seriously.

Anyone who has tried to find good golf in the Caribbean will tell you it is hard to come by. But in Barbados, in addition to the beautiful beaches, water sports, hiking, sailing, and sport fishing, there are several championship golf courses. Three of which are located at the highest rated accommodation in Barbados, Sandy Lane. The Westmoreland course is designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and at the Apes Royal you will be treated to views of the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. And quite possibly Green Monkey sightings.

I really enjoyed my visit to Barbados and now with the JetBlue service from Burlington it’s easy to get there. I would not hesitate to return to this warm, inviting and friendly island or to recommend it to my clients.
